You don’t need to do anything because the mother’s instincts will tell her exactly what to do. When the kittens get a little older, you can start handling them very gently and a little at a time (if the mother lets you), so they can get used to people. By the time they are about 4-5 weeks old they can start eating more solid foods – meat based human baby food (tinned or bottled) is a simple way to provide them with soft foods that they can digest easily. Give a little to start. (They will still be drinking their mother’s milk) By 6 weeks you can introduce kitten foods and then they’ll be ready to find new homes by the time they are 8 weeks old. Do not under any circumstances give them milk or yogurt – this will give them diarrhea. Ensure they have access to fresh water. As they are still young their digestive system and bowels are still developing and giving them inappropriate foods or milk etc will affect them for life.
