How do I transfer a file from/to an ECR6 Macintosh to/from the OpenVMS server?

• From Macintosh to server Open the “FTP (Fetch)” item in the Network submenu, under the Apple menu. Supply your username and password in the login dialog box, and you will be connected to your login directory on the server (a.k.a. your “Z: drive”). Click on the “Put…” button, and select the file you want to transfer from the User area. (You remembered to transfer it to the User area, as directed by the item regarding floppy disk read/write errors, above, right?) If the file is a text file, and you just want to open it on the server or any other computer, transfer it as text; otherwise (assuming you want to transfer to another Macintosh), transfer it as a BinHex file. (Name it with a “.hqx” suffix to easily identify it.) Remember that VMS filenames can only have a single period in them, so “file.bin.hqx” is not a valid destination file name, but “file-bin.hqx” is valid. • From server to Macintosh Repeat the previous procedure, but click on “Get…” instead of “Put…” after selecting
