How do I test if my tap water is safe to drink?
If it’s water through the town or city, it is safe. City and town water departments are required to test the water regularly. If it wasn’t safe, your town would issue a “boil order” where they would ask you to boil all water to be used for consumption for 10 minutes prior to drinking it or cooking with it. Occassionally, they do encounter problems with the system if there is a water break, so you should call them and ask them if there is any problem in the area. Usually if there is something wrong with the water supply, it will come out dirty or cloudy. However, there is a possibility of there being a problem in the pipes inside the building such as rust. You should bring that up to the landlord and get a water filter for the time being.
