How do i tell the sex of a young rabbit?
It is sometimes hard to sex young rabbits. You get better at it with experience. You can sex a rabbit as early as 2 weeks of age, but I prefer to wait until they are at least 7-8 weeks old, you can tell a lot better and it will be less stress on them. How to sex them– Gently flip them on their back (be sure to support their back & hindquarters), move the hair out of the way, place a finger on each side of their genitals and gently push down to make it “come out”. –Females (does) will have a slit all the way down to the anus and when looking at it from the side it will look like a pyramid. –Males (bucks) will not have a slit all the way down, instead there will be a hole/half slit. Male rabbits have testicles that descend between 9-20 weeks of age. If your rabbit has not been fixed, the easiest thing to look for is the testicles. They are near the genital opening and flesh colored. Fur often hides the testicles, so you will need to feel with your fingers pushing fur out of the way.
