How Do I teach my Morgan Horse how to “park”?
First, I’d teach one in a halter and you can either use a lead rope with or without a chain. Your preference and whichever your horse responds better to. I always use one with a chain since when I show in showmanship, you have to use a chain lead. First start off by having them square with all 4 feet lined up so their balanced. Then take your right hand and put it on their withers as you’ll be teaching them pressure points basically to park out. Eventually, you’ll get to where they’ll do it on command. Put your thumb on one side of the wither and the rest of your hand on the other side. You’ll basically be doing a pushing and pulling to kind of rock them and get them to shift their balance so that they’ll get weight off the feet that you want them to come out on. *Sorry run on sentence I know* then If you’re using a chain lead *for shits and giggles we’ll assume you are* you’ll want to start with getting them to move the foot closest to you, so you’ll gently push the lead against their
