How do i teach my mentally disabled sister about personal Hygiene?
Personal hygiene should have been something taught from an early age, making it part of her daily ritual and very much part of her independent living skills, although I suspect she will always need some sort of ongoing support. Ideally should be showered after having had her breakfast, having a fully tummy will make it easier to get her to do what she needs to do. Once breakfast is over, get her to make her bed, and set out the clothes she is going to wear for the day, before encouraging her to have a shower, give simple directions, such as wet your hair, then use the shampoo to wash her hair etc, you may have to be close by for few times, to ensure she washes herself properly, especially under the arms and crotch. Note; shampoo and conditioners with the little pumps are ideal as this can prevent them from using to much. Once she is showered, how to use deodorant etc, then encourage her to dress appropriately, some assistance to fasten buttons and underclothes maybe needed. Ask her to
