How do I teach a Grade One student Creative Writing?
It might be a little difficult, considering in the first grade, students are more focused with handwriting than creative writing, but I think it’s possible. Children are very creative, so have the student start writing a simple story first, plotting out his or her ideas before actually writing the story. It doesn’t have to be long, but after the story is written, you can go through and teach him or her how to edit, creating a few drafts until the story is complete. If you can, take the student outside or to different places so he or she can get inspiration from a variety of sources. If you’re teaching the student for an extended time, try going for a creative short story book, filled with as many short stories as the student can create and work on until you’re done teaching them. Have the student design the cover and a table of contents, and when he or she has finished with the short story book, they will feel accomplished and will be able to keep the stories to look back upon in the f
