All my cats have been spayed. I picked them up the same day, while they were still groggy. For the most part, they went off to find a place to sleep, and by the next morning, it was if nothing had happened. The next morning, energetic as always. I never used a cone, and while they licked at the incision area, none pulled out any stitches. I never did anything different about litter, and they ate and drank normally. The vet gave me an instruction sheet, and it stated to keep them from climbing stairs and jumping on furniture. I always had a good laugh with my vet over those suggestions. They self regulated. Keeping away from sand litter is often only done after declawing operations.
