How do I subscribe to (or renew) MobileMe using a retail box?
To use a MobileMe ‘retail box’ (which doesn’t contain any software, only an activation code), go to http://www.me.com/activate and choose whether to open a new account, reactivate an expired account or renew an existing account. If renewing you will be asked for your username and password. You can do this at any time but the renewal will not be applied to your account until the current year’s subscription is up. If you are on a trial account or are set to auto-renew with a credit card, the Account pane on the MobileMe site will probably still show the expiry date, which is disconcerting. If you click on the Options button, a page should come up showing that the activation key has been applied, the new renewal date, and a zero total to pay.
