How do I submit a Plea by Mail for a non-criminal traffic infraction?
If you were cited for a non-criminal traffic infraction and you are unable to appear for court, you may be eligible to submit an Affidavit of Defense. This option is available for non-criminal traffic infractions where no fatality has occurred. To determine if your citation is a non-criminal traffic infraction, review the boxes located at the “Court Information” section of your yellow citation. If either of the following two boxes is marked, you are eligible to elect the plea by mail option. The first box states “Infraction, court appearance required, as indicated below”. The second box states “Infraction which does not require appearance in court”. If you wish to obtain the required form via mail, you must send a letter requesting the “Affidavit of Defense” option.
