How do i stop my toddler from feeding at night?
You could try giving him a little more food in the afternoon. Maybe though he is just not ready to go all night without being fed. The World Health Organisation recently conducted a study of breast fed infants. They concluded infants who were breast fed into the third year and beyond showed no signs of dependency or clingyness. You toddler is at an age where he/she is probably being told ‘don’t do that’ ‘don’t touch that’ ‘ don’t climb on that’ a lot. Being breast fed is a very positive experince and I don’t think you should try to stop. Children ween naturally and your baby will when he/she is ready.

My daughter was approaching 17 months, and was starting to sleep longer at night than she ever had before. She would want to breastfeed before going to sleep though. But, I doubted that she was getting anything substantial, and was using me as a dummy. It was easy to distract her from trying to feed, so I knew that she was ready to not have it. Over the next few weeks, I breastfed once for a short while, and then after that she would try twice per night to breast feed, but I could tell this was out of habit, not out of necessity, and the first time, I asked her if she would like a yoghurt. She would merrily lead me to the kitchen to fetch a yoghurt from the fridge, run back into the living with it, and sit patiently while I fed it to her. About half an hour to an hour later, she would be at me again, but this time, she got to be a big girl and brush her teeth. T
