water temp is the main trigger for all fish spawnning so you are right on that aspect of it if you can’t cool the water down maybe raiseing the temp a few degs would do the trick conceder your self very lucky most people can’t get goldfish to breed in a tank the best way though is to do like you did and keep the fish seperated
