Hi: The whole key to a successful vegetable garden or any other garden is preparing the soil. I live in zone seven in the United States and also have clay soil. I am also a landscaper and designer. You start by tilling the soil. I recommend you do this several times as you want to work the soil to get it mixed up well. Go ahead and rake out the area and remove and stones or other materials. You can add some natural compost to your soil or add some organic mushroom compost. This is an organic fertilizer that will last up to one year. It doesn’t smell real great, but your plants will love it. After you plant your veggies, you can put down some pine straw as this will help retain the moisture in the ground.
