How do I start a fire, WITHOUT any modern tools, just stuff found in the woods?
I would recommend the bow drill. I’m going to try to explain it but there is an art to the bow drill and I could much easier show you than trying to explain everything in writing. There are a lot of little things that if done properly allow one to start a fire fairly quickly; if done wrong however you’d better wait around for a lightning strike. You can make cordage by using the reverse-wrap method. This involves rolling plant fibers together in one direction and then twisting like a breadtie in the other direction. You will end up with a fairly strong string. Now use this as the string for your bowdrill. After you have the bow (a stick) and string, find a rock or a piece of hardwood to use for the top of the spindle; you need something that will allow the spindle to spin quickly while allowing you to apply downward pressure. (Earwax makes a good lubricant at the contact point; you want all of the friction to be on the fireboard and not at the top of the spindle.) Find a cedar tree and
