If you are considering using Outlook 2007 as your default email client program, you must first find out the type of offline email access that your email/Internet service provider supports. Typically, most, if not all, email service providers support POP3. In addition, you must know the exact SMTP and POP3 server name/address and port numbers used by your email provider. Most providers post this information in the help section of their homepages. Obtaining this information is helpful in ensuring that your email account is fully compatible with Outlook 2007. Open Outlook, click “Tools” and choose “Account settings” from the drop-down menu. A dialog box opens. Click on the “Email” tab and select the “New” button. Choose the “Manually configure server settings or additional server types” option and select “Next.” Select “Internet E-mail” from the list of options and choose “Next.” Choose an account type from the “Account type” drop-down menu, as instructed by your email service provider.
