the way to set up a dual boot system is first partition the hard drive in to three one partition for window the other two for linux and the linux swap file install windows on the c: partition then when windows is up and running install ubuntu on the other partition telling it what partition to use for the swap file (for the swap file partition about 3gb should be enough), ubuntu will detect windows and the linux boot loader grub will be set up automatically for dual booting whatever you do windows MUST be on the c: partition if windows is already installed the partition the hard drive with something like partition magic before installing ubuntu
