How do I select the entire U.S. for the geographical location when asking a question?

When I select U.S. it requires a zip code. If I do not enter a zip code and click on “ask question,” gives me a warning “Please complete the required field.” I want to the entire U.S. community to see the question, not just people in a single zip code. If I wanted to ask a question to people only in my state or my city how would I do that. This zip code restriction would mean I would have to enter the question hundreds of times and each time with a different zipcode to target a specific region. I must be missing something, and appreciate your guidance.
