How do I save or open e-mail attachments when using Outlook Express?
Make sure you trust the sender when saving or opening any attachments you receive via e-mail. Having up to date anti-virus software installed on your PC is more important now than ever. 1. By default, Outlook Express blocks access to attachments that it deems unsafe. An attachment may be “grayed out” (see image below) making it unavailable to access. You may also get the message OE removed access to the following unsafe attachments in your mail: filename.xxx. 2. To override this setting and allow attachments to be saved or opened, select Tools from the top menu, and Options… from the drop down list. 3. Select the Security tab, and remove the check mark in the box labelled Do not allow attachments to be saved or opened that could be potentially be a virus. Click the Apply button and then the OK button. 4. You will now be able to save or open the attachment. Note: you may need to close any open e-mail messages and then re-open them in order to gain access to the attachments.
