How do I rid my pond/fountain of a snake?
Question We have a snake that is probably 2 feet long living in our pond/fountain. It ate quite a few of our fish last year, and now that they are all gone it is still in there. Is there something we can put in the water that would get rid of this pest, or is there some critter we could introduce before we restock with fish to get rid of it? It is brown with a pattern on its back. Not real big – probably just about 1″ diameter, but I don’t like them, and he had an expensive menu last year that I don’t want to provide again, but I really want fish. Answer Unfortunately there is no substance that can be put into the water to get rid of snakes. The snake will probably have to be physically removed (dead or alive). The snake could be relocated, but it would need to be taken far enough away to find a better habitat than your pond/fountain. Removing the snake may solve the problem as long as the pond/fountain is not located near a natural snake environment such as a pond, river, or stream. P
