A soiled, stained, or just plain worn-out couch can be made to look like a brand-new piece of furniture with just some cloth and a few simple tools. Re-upholstering your couch is certainly much cheaper than buying a new one. Determine if the original fabric was stapled or tacked on to the frame. This will let you know whether you will be using staples or furniture tacks when you put on the new cover. Choose what color and/or pattern your new couch will be, and purchase the material. Upholstery material usually comes on bolts, just like regular fabric, and can be purchased by the yard.
