How do I resolve errors encountered when using the data import feature?
There are typically two types of errors one might encounter when using the import feature in the USMTC program. First, there is an “Invalid File Type” error. This will occur if the file containing your data is not formatted exactly the way the system requires. There is a sample file format you can download and use upon clicking the “Import” button which is located on the “Current Order Management” page. If you get this error, make sure you have saved the file you want to import as a .csv file format. Also, make sure that the column heading titles and order in your file match those of the sample upload file mentioned above. The second type of error will attempt to identify individual records in your file of which contain data fields that are not recognized by the USMTC database. Typically, these types of errors are a result of miskeyed data. However, one particular error is common with the entry of machine codes that end in 0 (ie. 3541.520) or postal codes that begin with 0 (ie. 01234).
