Dave is right – but be aware that unless you have had a dead or disconnected battery this is the first of what may be a frustrating line of failures related to GM’s Passlock system. Check out the sources for related tales of woe. The ignition cylinder has been implicated as a major point of failure but replacing it does not solve all the recurring Passlock woes. I have seen no record of anybody being happy with replacement of the BCM to correct persistent Passlock lockouts. Note one of the sources recommends repeating the ten minute treatment a total of three times in a row, which seems to broaden the BCM’s acceptance window of input from the ignition cylinder.
