How Do I Reprogram a Digital Cable Box?
A digital cable box unscrambles and transfers television signals to a TV. Modern digital boxes are monitored by cable companies, which can process pay-per-view requests, conduct remote troubleshooting and reset the box, if necessary. After a power outage or even a surge in the electrical line, a digital box could lose some of the stored channels or delete special settings, such as wide-screen adjustments for flat-screen television sets. Manually reprogramming the box should get it working normally again. Unplug the cable box from the electricity for at least 30 seconds. Then reconnect. Turn on the cable box and the television, then press the “Scan” or “Auto-Tune” button on the remote control to reprogram all available channels from the cable company.
