How do I report New York City Nonresident Tax withheld on W-2 forms for 2000?
In the spring of 2000, the State of New York eliminated New York City Nonresident Tax retroactively to July 1, 1999. Employees who worked in New York City, but lived out of state, had this tax withheld from earlier paychecks in 2000. Report the withheld tax in Boxes 19, 20, and 21 of Form W-2 for 2000, following the guidelines below. Box 19, Locality name The payroll item name appears in Box 19 on the W-2. The payroll item for the New York City Nonresident Tax is entered in the Taxes window, on the Other tab, for each employee’s payroll setup. The Other tab has a Print on W-2 as field for New York City Nonresident Tax. QuickPayroll uses the name entered in this field in Box 19 of the W-2. If this item has been deleted from the employee’s payroll setup, QuickPayroll prints the full payroll item name from your Payroll Item List, if it is 8 characters or less.
