How do I report amendments or adoption of a building code to the Illinois Building Commission in accordance with PA 92/489?
Yes. Since 2002, Illinois law (Public Act 92-489) requires all municipalities with a population of less than one million or a county adopting a new building code or amending an existing code to report these requirements to the Illinois Building Commission. All local governments must report the adoption of a new code, or any changes in existing codes, to the Illinois Building Commission at least 30 days before adopting the code or amendment, referencing the title and edition or the professional standards that form the basis of the new local requirements. The Commission will post new code adoptions or amendments to existing codes submitted by Counties and Municipalities on its website www.ibc.state.il.us. You may submit your information on-line or print the form from the website and mail it to the Commission office, 420 Stratton Office Building, Springfield, IL 62706. The submittal may also be sent via fax to 217/557-7913.
