How do I replace the factory radio in a 1993 Ford Explorer?
Here is your solution: Purchase a Scosche harness kit #FDK2b, which supplies the rectangular connector for power, ground, etc.; a square connector for the 8-pin speaker/amp connections; and a double-ended AMP BY-PASS connector. You have to have this connector (also sold separately as fd07b) to properly by-pass the factory amp, which will redirect the speaker connections from the 8-pin speaker/amp connector direct to the factory speaker wiring in the doors. I would recommend using these harnesses 1) if you are planning on re-installing the factory radio prior to selling the vehicle, or 2) if you do not want to take the time to re-wire for speakers. Re-wiring for speakers is the BEST method; however, I have installed in these vehicles more than once, and it is very tedious and time-consuming work to properly route quality cables through under-carpet channels, door sills, factory cable routes, and door harnesses. Seriously, unless you are installing a kick-butt system with multiple amps,
