How do I replace an OP AMP on my sound card?
Are you looking to install new op amps to “improve” the sound? I can tell you that installing an op amp with better specs doesn’t always improve the sound. The op amp is only part of the circuit that’s providing gain. The resistors and capacitors around the IC are picked to work with the specific device that’s installed. Changing to a different device can sometimes render the circuit unstable and subject to oscillation. A studio owner came to me a few years ago and asked me to change all of the op amps in his main recording console out. He had read that TL072 ICs (that were in there) weren’t that good, and wanted to replace them with a chip for Analog Designs. I told him it wasn’t a good idea, but he was insistent. At least, I got him to agree to just doing a couple of channels at first. It was 12 op amps per channel strip (and it’s a 60 channel console). Long story short…the slew rate on the new devices was so much faster than the TI parts that the channels squealed as soon as you b
