How do I renew my childs’ American passport?
A. Complete these six easy steps: 1) Both parents come into the Embassy in person with government-issued photographic identification for themselves, (note: only one parent need bring the child if the absent parent completes the unequivocal statement of consent and it is notarized) (follow this link for information on the consent statement), 2) Bring Form DS-11 that you have completed (Dept. of State Forms), 3) Bring 2 passport photographs (they must be 2 inches by 2 inches; tell the person making them that you need them for an American passport), 4) Bring the child’s long form birth certificate or Consular Report of Birth Abroad, 5) Bring $82 (or the equivalent in Euro,) 6) and bring a self-addressed envelope that is stamped and registered, or a Swiftpack mailer if you are in a hurry. PLEASE NOTE: Children’s passports can not be renewed by mail – there cannot be an exception to this.
