How do i remove windows 2000 from my pc?
First make sure your computer is set to CD-ROM as first boot. Insert the Windows XP cd and restart your computer. Windows XP will load files needed for the install, when ask press F8 to agree to terms. Windows XP install will now search for an operating system and find 2000, and complain about having two operating systems on the same partition. Continue using the partition, by pressing the key it tells you to, to continue. Then it will ask if you want to format the drive, and you do, so press the key it tells you to. Then it will ask if you want FAT32 or NTFS, select NTFS and do the format, and make sure you do a full format, not a quick one. Then Windows XP will continue with the fresh install. From here on simply follow instructions. If your computer is fairly modern it will take roughly 30 minutes.
Before you remove Win2K, save your files that are important to you like documents etc… Put WinXP CD into CD-ROM. Boot up your computer, while it’s booting press DEL or F2 key to get into BIOS setup, look around where you see boot sequence, select to boot from CD-ROM drive (or optical drive), then save the settings and reboot. In a moment it’ll say “Hit any key to boot from CD-ROM”, you hit any key from keyboard and wait for computer to do its things. Sometime it’ll say it detects older version of Windows and presents you with some options to repair, delete or else… You want to delete partition, recreate and format it assuming you have only one drive in your system which is C:. From here on, WinXP will take you through the installation process. Problem, you just come back here again.
