If you look inside the lighter you will see two holes in the metal “socket”, opposite each other. Inside these holes are plastic tabs to release the lighter. You need to depress both plastic tabs and pull the metal socket out of the plastic trim. The socket comes out of the front. After the socket is removed there are two other plastic tabs that hold the trim in the console. These need to be depressed to remove the trim. You should know, however these are not really intended to be removed and the first two tabs are very difficult to depress. Good Luck.
