Turn the Water Softener offTurn the water softener off. Unscrew and remove the control valve and distributor tube from the softener to gain access to the resin.Remove the ResinDrain the remaining water out of the water softener. Use your hands to remove the resin from the softener. Clean out the tank with a toilet brush and bleach if it looks dirty.Replace the ResinReplace the old resin with a new resin. Use a funnel to pour the new resin directly into the water softener. Reconnect the control valve and the distributor tube back onto the water softener.
