it’s actually better to remove part of the floor with the stain by chiseling it out or if you are handy with a circular saw, you can hold the guard open and gentlely lower it on the 12×12 seams to cut the tongue. Be sure you are only cutting the tongue of the square because if you cut it elsewhere you will hit metal. Remove the squares and replace with new squares that has the tongues cut off of it. Glue it down.
