How do I remove paint from a brick fireplace?

Good luck. If you’re really determined to do it, ask at your hardware store. My guess is sand blast it, and you’d have to rent a machine for that. Why remove it? Why not just paint over it? If you want brick to look like brick again, paint the grout lines grey. Paint your brick a background color. Then use 3-4 colors of paint dabbed on a damp kitchen sponge and walk up and start patting the bricks as you turn the sponge. Make some bricks darker and some lighter. Keep the paint off the grout (keep a damp clean sponge for touchup). I think you will be amazed at what you can create. It’s worth a try! I turned my whole painted fireplace back into looking like brick that way. Nobody knows I painted it. I figured if someone can paint brick on a wall, then why couldn’t I paint brick on brick? I just used Michaels acrylic craft paints so it was cheap… but laytex or acrylic can’t go inside the box, of course, as they would melt in the heat.
