Answer Hi Wally, I am assuming it is a cast-iron tub? Remove the waste drain fitting, this is the flanged 1-1/2 drain at the drain end of the tub. You may have to get a special tool to get this flange loose from the fitting it attaches to just below the tub. Often a pair of pliers handles used upside down will fit through the cross strainer built in the drain flange and you can loosen by turning counter-clock-wise with a large screwdriver fitted between the pliers handles. You can buy, or make, a special tool that will fit inside the flange also. Even the special tool requires you to use something for a handle to get leverage enough to break the fitting loose. Remove the overflow attaching cover and make sure the tub is free from the overflow. If you have an access hole behind or under the tub you will have access to the waste and overflow from the back and underside of the tub and you can (if necessary) cut the fittings loose from the tub there.
