How do I remove lingering odours in my nappies?
Firstly, to remove the odour, put the nappies through two complete wash cycles without using any detergent, – I have found that cold water works best. Preferably line dry in the sun. If there is any odour left, a third wash with a dash of white vinegar (if you can set your machine to soak for a couple of hours then do so. This process will remove soap residue and the odour so that you can start fresh. I do not recommend using chemical nappy sanitizers or bleach, however a few drops of pure essential oils in the nappy bucket or in the wash can also help ones that are commonly used for washing nappies are tea tree oil, lavender and eucalyptus. A word of warning though they are very potent and a couple of drops are enough in a full wash. Some babies can react to essential oils as well, so they should be used with caution (and your own personal judgement), starting with only one drop in the wash to see if there is any reaction on your baby.
