How do I Remove Aluminum Weather Stripping Around a Broken Window?
1 Inspect the window and look at the weather stripping to determine how it is attached. Installers nail in most weather stripping. They also can slide it into a groove on the side of the window or caulk it in with a caulk gun. 2 Remolve the nails attaching the weather stripping. Grab the tip of the nails with pliers and pull. Start at one corner of the window and work all the way around, removing all nails in the weather stripping. 3 Pull off the weather stripping from the window. Begin at the top. Pry up the beginning of the first piece with a putty knife to get it started and then pull the rest of the strip. Continue this process around the entire window and remove all of the weather stripping. 4 Clean the area where the weather stripping was attached to the jamb. Spray water and soap over the area to remove any residue and gunk that may remain from the weather stripping or the caulk an installer used to attach it. Allow time for the area around the window to dry.
