How do I remove a traffic ticket from my driving record?
Traffic school does not ‘remove’ citations from your record – it only removes the points associated with them. In many cases the court will still report the violation to the DMV as a ‘zero point’ offense. In some cases the court will choose not to report it at all, but you have no control over whether or not that happens. In your case, if the violation has already appeared on your driving record it is too late. You generally have a limited window in which to request traffic school from the court. Furthermore, once the insurance company is aware of the violation they are under no obligation to consider it ‘dismissed’ because you took traffic school. As a private company they are entitled to charge you according to their own research and pricing schedule. To them, the fact that you went to traffic school does not make your speeding ticket less risky. The ‘0 point’ thing is only important for determining whether or not the DMV is going to revoke your license. For Cheese Queen: I personall
Tonalc2 is right. Give her best answer. Beverly is wrong, and I suspect is not in California, since there is no such thing as a 0-point offense in California. If you go to traffic school, you are never convicted; the citation is dismissed. That dismissal is reported to DMV, but is confidential (unless you had a prior dismissal within 18 months). Once you are convicted, it is too late to avoid the conviction with traffic school, so that will be on your record for three years. If your insurance with your old company has not lapsed, you might want to check with them for a rate, since 1 point should not result in much of an increase for a current customer.
