Unscrew the ThermostatTurn off the power supply to the furnace. Push with your hand from underneath the thermostat, and slide it up and out of its mounting plate on the wall. Hold the thermostat a little bit away from the wall so that you have full access to its wires. Use masking tape to wrap the wires, and write the number for each wire on its masking tape as you go along using a pencil.Remove the ScrewsRemove the screws on the back of the terminal with a Phillips head screwdriver. Remove the wires from the terminal by pulling them out carefully. Wrap the wires around the pencil, and secure with masking tape. Remove the screws holding the mounting plate to the wall with the screwdriver. Remove the mounting plate while threading the wires through the hole in the middle of the mounting plate very carefully.
