How do i remove a dead iris flower?

0

Snap off dead blooms. The blooming stalk of irises has multiple blooms that usually flower at different times. Remove old blooms after they have flowered, leaving buds to bloom later. Take the dead bloom in your fingers and bend and pull it so it snaps off. If it does not snap off easily, cut if off with a pruning shears or sharp knife.Cut the bloom stem. When the iris is done flowering, cut the bloom stem about 2 inches above the rhizome (base root). You can cut the bloom stem up to 6 inches–the rhizome will get nutrients out of the stem and have more energy for flowering next year.Divide the rhizomes. Irises need to be separated and culled every few years. Unhealthy rhizomes are shrunken, withered or darkened.
