how do i remove a clip or clips without changing the timeline?

Welcome to the discussions. The clips on your time line are like cars on a train. When you remove one of them, as in unhooking and taking off a traincar from the train, you have a blank space where the removed clip was, just as you would be left with a broken train that would only run with the first cars up to the unhooked part, and the back of the train would not move. The same thing occurs with the clips. When you remove clips in the middle of your movie, the timeline moves because the clips close the gap where the removed clip used to be. If they did not close the gap, your movie would have a blank black clip every place where you deleted footage. If you have audio that you have placed into the timeline and it gets moved away from where you need it, you can lock it to its corresponding video clip and then when you delete/remove clips, you will not lose the proper placement of the audio. Hope this is helpful. Post back if this did not address your issue.
