Start from Your Windows XP CD or FloppyInsert the Windows XP installation CD into your optical drive, or the first of the six Windows XP floppy boot disks into your floppy drive. With the disc or disk inserted, power on or restart the computer. When prompted, press any key to boot the computer from the optical or floppy drive.Run the InstallerPress the “Enter” button when asked to start the Windows XP installation process. When the Windows XP software license agreement appears, press “F8” to accept the terms. When prompted, select your current Windows XP installation by using the up and down arrow keys. Press the “R” key to repair the Windows XP installation on your hard drive. This will salvage much of current installation while reinstalling core components that may be keeping your computer from working properly.Reinstall UpdatesDownload all updates, including Windows XP Service Packs, once the installation completes and you re-enter Windows XP.
