Preparing the Quilt TopPress your quilt top with a moderate iron. As you iron, apply a light layer of starch to the top of the quilt top. Lightly mark your chosen quilting designs in the open background pieces of the quilt top using a mechanical pencil. There are many quilting designs to choose from made to specifically fill the open areas on a double wedding ring quilt. The layer of starch will aid in the removal of your pencil marks when you are done quilting.Basting Your QuiltAssemble your stretcher bars for basting so they are the same dimensions as your top. Pin your backing fabric to the stretcher bars with the wrong side of the fabric facing up. Lay your batting on top of the backing and then smooth your top over the batting. Using size 00 brass safety pins, pin the three layers together, spacing the pins approximately 4 inches apart.
