How do I protect spreadsheet in Microsoft Excel but leave a few cells able to change?

As you have found, it is a two-prong process. On spreadsheets all cells are locked but it makes no difference unless the sheet is protected so…what you have to do is highlight all the cells in which you want people to be able to enter data, then go up to format, cells and untick the locked box so that only those cells are unlocked all others such as your headings and definitely your functions and formulae are protected. Then go and protect the sheet and though you may think you will remember the password, DO write it down somewhere safe. The number of people on here who forget passwords.
