How do I prevent my Res-Q backup from including large files created by other backup programs?
You may use other backup programs such as PKzip or Microsoft Backup to perform quick backups to your own hard drive occasionally. These may create rather large files that are really just duplicates of the files Res-Q is already going to backup. It doesn’t make sense to have them included in your Res-Q backup. To exclude these files, you simply have to know how the files are named and then create a filter to exclude them. For example, PKzip files will usually have an extension of .zip and Microsoft Backup files use an extension of .qic, so you can exclude all files that end with those extensions. Alternatively, if your other backup files are always in a certain directory (folder), you can exclude the contents of that directory. To create a filter in Res-Q, go to the select files screen, type the file name pattern (*.zip or *.qic) in the “exclude files” box. Then click on “add filter” and the selection will be added to the list of excluded files. Res-Q will now skip these files when back
