1. Working breed dogs become destructive and mischevious when bored. Border collies and the sled dogs are the worst at this. Take your malamute running with you. Or go throw a ball and make him run for hit. Or practice recalls between 2 people who are standing 50 yards apart. Or go for a walk in wild areas or the mountains. Or do some performance sports. But any dog that does a lot of digging is generally a bored dog. Some dogs are a little more predisposed to this or will dig after animals (moles, chipmunks, etc.) but mostly it’s about boredom. Get your dog physically tired and intellectually stimulated and I bet the digging will stop. I’m serious about this. Growing up, we had a malamute. He never dug. But we had a 50 acre farm he grew up on. And we also used him to pull small stuff for fun. He was so active and physically pushed that the idea of digging never crossed his mind. We had a home garden, acres of soybeans and a frontyard with grass and he never touched them–he never need
