However, there can be obstacles to obtaining the perfect lawn, including pets, weeds and, perhaps worst of all, moss. There are a number of ways to limit and reverse moss growth in your lawn. Mow only the top third of each blade of grass of the lawn. This mowing style allows for greater root growth and a larger surface area for the blade to absorb sunlight. It is the easiest way to reduce moss growth. Level out your lawn. Fill in any holes or low points with soil, or better yet, sand. Sand allows moisture to distribute itself evenly and adds to soil aeration. By elevating low lying areas of your lawn, spots that are prone to moss are now more exposed to wind and sunlight, making it nearly impossible for moss to grow.
