HOW DO I POTTY TRAIN MY YORKSHIRE TERRIER?
How old is she? It can take puppies at least six months to be house trained. Our vet told us small dogs can take longer and be more difficult. I know a lot of people who use the puppy pads, but I never did. With my Pom she is kennel trained, so at night she would sleep in her kennel (or when we would have to go out) and they usually won’t go where they sleep. Then during the day I would take her out every two hours like clockwork.Even with this, she still had some accidents, but one day (like flipping a switch!)) she just started going to sit by the back door to go out! You have to buy stuff at a pet store to spray on the carpet where she has an accident, to get the smell out, so she doesn’t keep going in the same spot. And, when your puppy does does go outside successfully make sure you praise her and give her a treat…this positive reinforcement will do wonders!!! I had a larger dog, who I swear, was like 8 months before she got it! Good luck…it’s frustrating at times, but she’ll
the easiest way to train a puppy to potty is to crate the puppy. basically the crate is where she will sleep. as soon as you open the door in the morning, you should bring her outside until she does her business and reward her lightly with by petting or a simple “good girl”. you dont want to be too rewarding, then you take her out at least every 2 hours so you have a routine going. when she pees or poops on the carpet, you make her smell and spank telling her no, bad girl or whatever you want to say and you put her outside so she begins to understand not in here. if you correct her and leave her in the house, you are actually confusing her. i hope this helps.
Spank her (yes, i said SPANK HER) whenever she pees inside the house. Do this every time until she realizes what she’s doing is wrong. Also, forcefully put her outside whenever she needs to go. Combine these 2 and she’ll be potty trained in no time. BTW, don’t spank her too hard and do it with your hand or else she might feel abused.
the sniff doesn’t work. i had 7 Chihuahuas already and the easiest is indoor to crate train. i have a crate for a 100 to 150 lb dog and as soon as i let them out i take them to the pee pad and they learn that’s what they do or go on. make sure to leave a designated spot for it and leave a pad in the crate. if your doing outside its easiest also with the crate or how ever to bring them immediately after letting them out, outside and make sure they go, then praise the crap out of them. small dogs love to make you happy and they can sense it when you are. but it is harder to train a small dog than a larger one. good luck.
