How do i potty train my puppy?

Here are some tips, use what helps. I use a crate* to potty train with, but only for potty training and then I break it down and store it. I put blankets and a small food and water dish in the crate. Dogs don’t potty where they eat and sleep. When they are first little, I only expect them to hold their potty for 4 hours, and then 6 hours, then 8 hours and so on. So when they are first little, I set a timer or alarm clock to wake myself up at night to take them *out. I only allow my puppy in the bedroom* or the living room, only one room at a time. They have to graduate to more space. If I allow them to have full run of the house, it will overwhelm them. I take them out the same door each time. I tie a dinner bell to the door handle. Do not use a jingle bell as they could get their toe caught in it. So when they are little, I ring the bell for them, and then open the door to go *outside to potty. When they get bigger, I take their paw and whack the bell and open the door to go potty. Ev

Get a crate that can grow with her. It’s important to make sure there isn’t enough room in the crate for a potty area and a sleeping area. There should be only enough room for the pup to turn around. Put her in there while you are sleeping and while the pup is home alone. All other times, keep her close to you (preferably on a leash) and take her outside at scheduled intervals to potty(after eating, etc). When she goes outside, give lots of praise and treats! When she has an accident inside, try not to bring attention to it (unless you catch her in the act- then you can give her a stern “no” and bring her outside- NEVER rub her nose in it or hit her as that will make her hide from you and potty in the house). It takes loads of patience, but soon she will be potty trained!!! ADD: If you see her “sniffing out her spots” bring her outside immediately!

Puppy’s do that. You just have to wait. Teach the puppy what ”potty” means and then let him/her outside and say ”go potty”. This usually works as I found out the hard way and so have you.

dog trainer 30 plus years – House Training Your Puppy Puppies are just like children who are being potty trained he will need you to do the leading. He is not going to be able to “let you know” in a specific way that is easy for you. Most dogs sniff & drop to go. It is a quick sniff when he really has to go…other times he is more studious in checking out the right place. When he has gone potty outside take note if it was #1 and or #2. Your pup will poo about 5x a day where as he pee’s about 12-15x a day. The only way I can tell you that works without fail is: If no one is watching him someone put his leash on and put it in your pocket. That way you can do what needs to be done in the home and keep an eye on him rather easily as well. This is also an opportunity to leash train him. When he “doesn’t feel like it” (just like children) he will go belly down to the ground and not walk…if he’s been walking a while this is understandable but if he has not…it is just a puppy testing boun
