How do I Play in a Pre-Qualifying Event for a PGA Tour Golf Tournament?
To play in some PGA tour events players must first pass through a pre-qualifying stage. For example, The U.S. Open is made up of 156 golfers each year. Of this field of 156, nearly half of the players have to play in a pre-qualifying event. The other half has gained exempt status. In the U.S. open, exempt status can be gained by winning the championship in the past 10-years or winning any other major in the past 5-years. Find out when and where the closest pre-qualifying tournament is for a specific PGA event. A list of tournaments that have PGA pre-qualifiers can be found on the USGA website. Check to make sure that you have the required credentials for the pre-qualifying tournament that you want to play in. Things that qualify you to play in a tournament can be your handicap index and age.
