How do I plan for and schedule my Econ 890 Project Oral Defense (comprehensive oral exam)?
As part of the Econ 890 course, students develop their culminating experience projects and they should submit the “Proposal for Culminating Experience” form at this time. This form is available at the Continuing Student Forms page of the Graduate Division website. The department will assign an Oral Defense Committee for each graduating student and notify the student of the date of the oral defense. The oral defense will be based on the Econ 890 (Culminating Experience) project and will last for approximately 60 minutes, which includes student presentation (approximately 30-45 minutes) and a question-answer session to follow. All economics faculty and graduate students are invited to attend the oral defenses. Students may pick up a copy of the Oral Examination criteria from the department office coordinator. Normally, oral exams are scheduled in June and December.
